The term “Widowmaker” applies to a limb that has broken off, most usually from storm damage, and is left hanging in a tree. These hanging limbs are very dangerous because they are unpredictable and can fall at any time. Taking one down is one of the most dangerous tree jobs because of the unpredictability, and I always approach one with great caution.
